"Down Home...

where they know you by name and treat you like family!" If you know who sings that line, I'll buy you a Coke!

I listened to country music this morning during my long ride to the other side of the city, and it dawned on me that to many people, I don't come across as a "country girl." Naw, I don't use the accent much 'til I'm cruising with DinWIDDie (notice the emphasis?) hometown folks or until I git all exahted that I'm talkin' to my Nawth Caruhlina friends...you get the picture. Now, I cain't even write what it sounds like when I REALLY talk "Dinwiddie," but if you ask me in person, I might overcome my shyness and show you! Ha!

So, anyway, my deep thought as I drove was, "Anytime I see something screech across a room and latch onto someone's neck, and the guy screams and tries to get it off, I have to laugh, because what is that thing." Ok, ok, so that's really Jack Handey's deep thought, and I only put it there in case my pal D-Rae ever reads this!!!

My real thought: "If folks don't think I'm from the country, here's some proof!"
First, I have a dog named Chester. But, when I am home alone, I often seem to refer to him as "Bubba," or "Bubby."
Second, I have a bottle of Sauer's Barbecue Sauce in my cupboard, just waiting for the perfect pork loin barbecue day. If you don't know Sauer's, well, they're the folks who also sell Duke's Mayonnaise. If you don't know Duke's, well, yer not from 'round here.
Third, I know that a holler is a place you come to on a hike in the mountains, not something you do so everyone will hear you.
Fourth, I know where yonder or yon is located.
Fifth, ya'll is the preferred term for a group of folks I'm addressing.
Sixth, Coca-Cola. Period. (Although some of my country friends might argue that one...)
Seventh, if you don't want to call it "Coke," just call it "drank."
And, eighth and last for now, I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN NABS AND FOUR-CORNER NABS. (I know some of you are scratching your heads and wondering what Nabs are. Ask, I'll tell.)

Well, that about sums it up for me. I just had a nice "Carry Me Back to 'Ole Virginny" day and it made me smile.

Ya'll come back, y'here?
(By the way, it's Alabama--the song...Alabama sings it!)

Ahh, thanks for the "Virginny" moment. I know that Missouri isn't a foreign country, but it sure feels like it sometimes! Thanks for taking me home for at least a few minutes!
