Argh! Some days I really struggle with the words that come out of my mouth. Just when I think I have the language down, I say something really ridiculous. Thankfully, I generally don't make those mistakes anymore that cause true embarrassment, but just those everyday "le" and "se" and "what in the world did you just say to me?" moments frustrate me! But, thankfully, I have friends who like me and don't laugh at me. GRACIAS! Ok, now I feel better.
And, don't fool yourself. Other countries are no different than ours when it comes to language. You know how in Virginia we generally say, "Ya'll," but in Pennsylvania my "kinfolk" often say "you'ns?" Well, that difference exists--obviously--in Spanish as well. Villa Coapa speech has different words and sounds than Ojo de Agua speech. So, I'm learning! And forget about those grammar rules you learn. I have just begun to truly capture the fact that it sounds better to talk like everyone else than try to always make sure every word I say--every verb I use--is exactly correct. What's that old saying? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em! So, that's what I'm doing now.
AND...if you want to really learn a language well--forgive me for saying this, but--get away from all of the Gringos! Now that all of my gringo friends are going to give me mean looks, let me just say that my Spanish (while still improving) has improved TREMENDOUSLY now that I pretty much hang with the Ojo de Agua homies.
Ok, so that's that. Not real inspiring, nor extremely interesting. Next time. MANANA. En un RATITO. LUEGO LUEGO...AYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!
adios
